Omni Westside Hotel
October 3, 2011
The Omni Houston Westside Hotel is a hidden charm. Beneath its unromantic, modernist and corporate look, lies an architectural design worth exploring. From the outside, and a glimpse of the interior, one may mistake the hotel for an office or some corporate entity. But try to explore the space, and one will find its undiluted architectural merit; its space is simply astounding. Two five-story height atriums are connected with a huge koi pond which extends to the outdoor gardens on both sides. Guest wing hallways branch out like multiple legs from the center, connected by skywalks lining around the atrium spaces. These extensive network of bridges provide numerous fantastic vantage points of the lobby area and the outdoor views, transforming a typically tiring walk to one’s room into a lofty excursion. For Houstonians, this place is worth a visit, if not for its architecture, maybe for their enjoyable $16 Sunday breakfast buffet.
