Well Configurations
Dual laterals can tap two outtake points in a reservoir. Horizontal laterals intersect more natural fractures, especially if fracture direction is known. Dual-opposed laterals, like hydraulic fracturing, are particularly effective in low-permeability, or tight, reservoirs.

In laminated formations or layered reservoirs, vertically stacked laterals effectively commingle several horizons to increase well productivity and improve recovery.

Horizontally spread laterals in fork, fan or spine-rib arrangements target a single zone to maximize well productivity in shallow low-pressure or heavy-oil reservoirs and fields with depleted pressure.
