RapidConnect and RapidExclude systems consist of two main components that are
assembled downhole to close dimensional tolerances, not prefabricated, to yield
high-strength junctions. The first component, a template with precut window
and guide rails, is set across a window milled in the primary casing using
the RapidAccess system. The second component, a connector, physically anchors
lateral liners to the template.
Continuous engagement between the template guide rail and connector
profile provides better load support and mechanical junction
integrity in the event
of formation instability or movement. The modified RapidExclude template
profile also excludes formation grains in unconsolidated
or weakly consolidated
reservoirs.
If unplanned laterals are required in a wellbore where there is
no ICC, RapidConnect and RapidExclude systems can be installed
using a conventional retrievable
packer as the reference datum and construction platform.
RapidConnect and RapidExclude junction systems have two main components,
a template and a connector. An ICC orients the precut template window adjacent
to a milled casing-exit window. Connector profiles at the top of a liner
and
template guide rails interlock to create a strong, durable connection.
