It is our responsibility to protect
the environment.
There are two major environmental
concerns with the use of plastic containers - their impact
on global warming and on our landfills.
With respect to global warming, did
you know that it requires less energy to produce and transport
plastic beverage containers than it does glass, aluminum
or paper? According to studies conducted on behalf of the
FDA and the ACC, plastic is a clear winner in terms of the
energy consumed to make and distribute them.
We are not saying that there is no
adverse impact from using plastic. All containers require
energy to produce and transport them. So if you don't need
a container of any kind then don't use one. But there are
those times when a beverage container makes sense, for example,
when tap water is not accessible. If you have to pick a beverage
container it is important to know those made of plastic are
better in terms of the energy consumed to make and distribute
them.
Plastic is light, sanitary and an
excellent way to contain liquids. However it is very resistant
to degrading in landfills. Recycling is a much better option
for us and for the planet on which we live. So please recycle!
